Five Paragraph Essay Rubric
Basic Five Paragraph Essay Sturcture
PROMPT:  How did the institution of slavery impact the lives of those who were enslaved?
  1. Although slavery prompted economic growth for Americans, the slaves were treated like property and were stripped of their cultural identity and basic rights.
  2. Although the lives of slaves were impacted in a negative way, and they were treated inhumanely, the slaves were very important in shaping the way America runs today.
  3. Those who were enslaved had no rights and were physically and mentally abused by their owners and had little to no control over their own life.
  4. Although slavery basically made the U.S. what it is today, it was an inhumane and cruel practice that could be seen in the law as well as pictures and documents at the time.
  5. Although slaves were treated very poorly on the way to America and being sold, it all depended on the owner and how much freedom he gave the slaves.
  6. The institution of slavery was very important to the growth of America. Although many slaves were here, they couldn't fight back. May it be malnourishment, weakness, dehydration or chains, they were not in a place to be fighting. This paired with the laws used against them, slaves weren't in a good place. Their lives depended on keeping their heads down.
