Formulas-Task- Students, individually or in small groups, will design and create a mathematical or scientific formula on the New Deal. Choose five to seven items to represent in a formula that captures the essence of the COLD WAR ( events, organizations, domestic policy, foreign policy). These items must be represented by variables (i.e. musical note representing Jazz music from the Harlem Renaissance). The formula must be turned into a word picture that fits in a single sheet. Additionally, students will have to write a description for each variable in the word picture. Samples should be made available to enhance students understanding the requirements.
- Math symbols to consider: + (added something); - (subtracted); x (multiplied); ÷ (divided)
- Grading- Student grades will be determined by the following components:
- Formula- drawings, 5-7 letters, math symbols, etc.
- Written Report- In 1-2 paragraphs describe each selected variable (i.e. letters and symbols) and explain how it appropriately relates to the selected topic and its historical significance. Students need to make connections in meaningful ways.
